K’Nex Sesame Street Building Sets

Meghan Says:

Dylan has always been really frustrated with being the baby.  And I realize there are kids in the family younger than him.  I birthed one of them, so I’m painfully aware.   But, he’s the youngest of the “big” kids.  He has a cousin who’s 7 and another who’s 4 1/2.  They have all kinds of big kid toys that he covets, but he just can’t master.  It drives him crazy.  And in turn, it drives ME crazy because all he does is whine about it.  Incessantly.

So I was really excited when I was offered the opportunity to try out a new product from K’Nex.  K’Nex toys are one of the most frustrating things that Dylan’s cousin’s play with.  The older boys spend HOURS building “really cool” boats, planes and spaceships out of them.  Dylan always waits patiently for his cousins to build one for him.  But he’s just not old enough to figure out how to build something “really cool” on his own.

Until now, because K’Nex has just come out with products that are geared toward the preschool set!  After about 15 minutes of looking at the parts of the K’Nex Sesame Street Building Set and watching me play with it, he had it down pat.  He’s an Elmo building fool.  You can also turn Elmo into a dog, fish or duck.  He hasn’t been able to figure those out by himself, but he REALLY likes to “help” me do it.  And I don’t think the day of building independence are too far off.  He thoroughly enjoys playing with the pieces and every time he “completes” Elmo he’s so proud to show me.

Each set comes in it’s own box, so I’m not *too* concerned with losing parts.  But, let’s be honest, it’s ME and MY house, so parts will certainly disappear at some point.  But that’s not K’Nex fault!  Because they’re for “younger” kids, the pieces are bigger.  Which is a BIG help with Zach trying to get into it.  I don’t have to be hyper-vigilant to make sure he doesn’t get any small pieces, which is the case with other K’Nex sets.  And with prices starting at $10.99, it’s definitely something that’s economical.  Plus, because the sets come in all sorts of Sesame Street characters, there’s sure to be one that the kid(s) in your life will love!  I know I’m planning on adding to our K’Nex Sesame Street Building Set collection in the future.  Especially Super Grover.  I have a soft spot for him.

I give a Rating: ★★★★★  They ARE Hot, Hot, Hot.  But not to the touch.  That would be inappropriate for children.

But the BEST part?  I have a set to giveaway!  Just head over to the K’Nex site and check out the cool Sesame Street Building Sets.  Come back here and leave a comment about who the set would be for and your favorite Sesame Street memory or character!  The contest will remain open until 11:59pm on Sunday, October 5th.  I’ll pick the winner using a random number generator on Monday, October 6th and email them to let them know!  You’ll have until Wednesday, October 8th to send me your shipping information, or I’ll have to pick a new winner. One entry per person.  Open to US residents only.  And unfortunately we can’t ship to PO Boxes.

Good luck!

**P.S.  I can’t guarantee you’re going to get the K’Nex Sesame Street set you list here.  They’re drop shipping them directly!  But you’ll enjoy it either way!  That I CAN guarantee**

Sleep Is For The Weak

Heather Says:

Sleep CoverWhen I got the opportunity to read and review Sleep is for the Weak through the Parents Bloggers Network, I was excited. And then the book showed up on my doorstep and I thought, “Why the hell did I agree to review a book? Now I have to READ!”

Luckily, I remembered that the book is a collection of blog entries – perfect for my short attention span. And the best part is all the blog entries have been pre-screened for quality. Awesome.

The first thing I thought was how impressive it is to have an actual published book of mommy bloggers. I hate that, to some, the term “mommy blogger” has a negative connotation. It’s my hope that this excellent anthology helps to lift all us mommy bloggers up in esteem. The second thing I thought was, 199 pages is TOTALLY doable. Then I procrastinated a bit, because it’s what I do. Just ask any of my former teachers. But I digress.

My favorite part about this book is that you don’t have to be a blogger to enjoy it. Any mother or mom-to-be can relate to the trials of potty-training, juggling the 800 things we have to accomplish in our waking hours, and the hopes and dreams we have for our children. These women bloggers are just like the rest of us – they just express themselves through the written word in a most elegant or hilarious way.

The fact that it’s made up of bite-size essays is a plus – as a mom, there were times I knew I’d have only about two minutes to read my book, so I’d skip ahead to a short post. That’s a huge plus for a busy mom like me. Or a mom with a short attention, which I also happen to be. And SHUT UP MEGHAN I know you’re reading this and muttering, “or a lazy mom.” I’ll GET to that other book review, Pushy.

So, I give Sleep is for the Weak a
Rating: ★★★★★  – Hotter Than Burning Loins!!!

Hot Mom Reviews

Meghan’s Take:

This “Mommy Blogger” Review site, although new, seems pretty promising. It’s run by two totally fun and awesome girls, so there’s bound to be frivolity excitement around every corner. They plan on reviewing anything and everything that they can get their hands on that is relevant to their lives. And most of the time they will be doing joint reviews, which will be nice because, let’s face it, the world of Mommy Reviews could use a little shaking up, no?!

The rating system is especially fun, and Meghan’s will go a little something like this:

Match: Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Kinda warm, won’t toast any marshmallows

Candle: Rating: ★★☆☆☆ Getting warmer, but still some definite room for improvement

Bar-B-Que: Rating: ★★★☆☆ While it puts out some heat, there are still a few cool spots

Fireplace: Rating: ★★★★☆ Getting HOT. Watch out or you might get burned.

Inferno: Rating: ★★★★★ HOT HOT HOT! ‘Nuff Said

She’s not going to worry about any “half” ratings. And trust me, if she thinks something sucks, she’s more than willing to give it a “match” rating (or worse…dun dun dun). She might not be good at telling people exactly what she thinks in real life, but the anonymity of the internet provides has given her some cajones. Just wait and see.

The only negative I see so far is that they haven’t even really launched yet and they’re ALREADY a day or two behind. These girls are going to have to get their acts together, and quick. But once they do, I have no doubt they’ll be the definition of HOT HOT HOT. I mean, they already kind of are.

They definitely deserve a Rating: ★★★★★.

Heather’s Take:

When I heard about Hot Mom Reviews, I thought, “Oh great, another review blog! I can’t wait to not read that!” But then I saw that two of my favorite moms were writing for it. I mean, Heather and Meghan are hilarious. I knew that their reviews would be anything but boring. And, knowing Meghan, they’ll include a sprinkling of phrases like, “Kick Ass!” and “I need a drink!” But enough about Meghan! Let’s talk about Heather’s review system.

Match: Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ A match sucks! It barely singes your fingers.

Candle: Rating: ★★☆☆☆ Candles are pretty, but nothing special.

Bar-B-Que: Rating: ★★★☆☆ Hot enough to cook, but charcoal is messy.

Fireplace: Rating: ★★★★☆ Who doesn’t like a fireplace? They’re so cuddly and romantic.

Inferno: Rating: ★★★★★ Hotter than burning loins!!

Heather is never afraid to say something sucks. In fact, in high school she was the emcee of a rally, and she got in trouble for telling the Freshmen class that they sucked in front of the entire student body and faculty, assorted parents, and several members of the school board. She’s not scared of authori-tay! She will totally give a ZERO rating if one is warranted. Don’t believe it? You’ll just have to keep coming back.

There’s no question they get a Rating: ★★★★★.
