General Mills Blog Tour
I love cereal. I could honestly eat it for every meal of the day. Mmm…just thinking about crunchy cereal with icey cold milk gets my stomach a rumbling. My parents are to blame for this. We only had cereal for breakfast on the week days. They were big on the calcium and Vitamin D. But like most things that are good for me, I don’t get enough cereal these days. Why? Because I always forget to put cereal on my grocery list. Maybe if I regularly consumed the nutrients that come in cereal, I wouldn’t be so forgetful. IT’S A VICIOUS CYCLE, PEOPLE.
Then, like a magical fairy, The Mom Bloggers Club invited me to be a part of the General Mills Blog Tour. At first I was like, “Wha? A blog tour? That sounds tiring.” But then I realized that all I had to do was eat cereal – and it would be sent to me! I just had to provide the milk. Luckily, my daughter had some I could steal borrow.
I was a little apprehensive about what kind of cereal they’d send me. I figured it would be something healthy. You know. Something that tastes like cardboard. So you can imagine my surprise when I was sent Lucky Charms. Lucky Charms! Remember when they were called “Frosted Lucky Charms?” What happened to the “frosted” part?
Anyway. My only experience with Lucky Charms before this was over a decade ago, when I was a babysitter. Once I got my young charge down for bed, I was desperate for something sweet. There wasn’t any ice cream, candy, or soda in the house. I opened up the pantry, hoping to find some chocolate chips or something. I didn’t discover any chocolate (and seriously, I would have had baking chocolate at that point), but I DID find some Lucky Charms cereal in the back corner. I grabbed the box of cereal, and then proceeded to eat every last marshmallow out of the box. Hope the parents enjoyed the frosted cereal sans lucky charms.
HOLD THE PHONE! There’s a new marshmallow charm! Sorry, I got distracted by the box.
I never thought that something with marshmallows could be GOOD for you. But it is – and even more importantly, it’s good for your kids. I perused the box while I enjoyed my cereal, and I was surprised to learn that 75% of kids don’t get the recommended levels of of calcium and vitamin D. General Mills cereals are high in those essential nutrients, and each serving has at least eight grams of whole grain per serving. Calcium, Vitamin D, and whole grains help build big, strong kids – and I just happen to have a kid in the building process! Good thing Lucky Charms are a hit.
I DO feel like I have to point out that Lucky Charms are high in sugar. 11 grams per serving. So, in our house, Lucky Charms won’t be an every day thing.
Be sure to stop by their website for nutritional information, recipes and a coupon to buy your own cereal.
